What is Stainless Plate?
Stainless plate refers to stainless steel that has been rolled or forged into a plate of varying thicknesses. Sandmeyer Steel Company has the largest single inventory of stainless plates in North America. This inventory includes austenitic, martensitic, duplex, and precipitation hardened types.

Below are a few examples of the stainless plate grades available at Sandmeyer Steel Company:

304 Stainless Steel Plate
304, 304H, and 304L stainless plates are an austenitic stainless steel, a basic alloy containing minimum chromium (18%) and nickel (8%) and maximum carbon (.08%). The 304H and 304L types vary these amounts. The 304 stainless plates are available in 3/16" through 6-1/2" at 1/8" increments. With high levels of corrosion resistances, alloy 304 avoids product contamination, has an aesthetic appearance, and is easily cleaned, formed, and fabricated.

316 and 316L Plate
316 stainless plate and 316L stainless plate are molybdenum-bearing austenite with varying levels of resistance to corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion. Available in thickness from 3/16” to 6-1/2” in 1/8” increments, 316 and 316L stainless plate also comes as E-Z drill for better machinability. 316 and 316L stainless plates can be easily formed and fabricated and have high creep, stress-to-rupture, and tensile strengths ideal for elevated temperatures and severe environments.

347 Stainless Plate
Offered in thicknesses ranging from 3/16” through 3”, 347 stainless plate is made of stabilized stainless steel containing niobium (columbium) and tantalum. With higher creep and stress rupture properties, Alloy 347 has good mechanical properties and resists intergranular corrosion even after extensive time in elevated temperatures.

410 Stainless Plate
Available in thicknesses from 3/16” to 4”, 410 stainless plate is a martensitic grade stainless steel which is hardenable and useful for many applications. In addition to excellent corrosion and wear resistance, 410 stainless plate has high strength after being oil quenched between 1700°F to 1850°F (927-1010°C).

17-4PH Stainless Plate
17-4PH is a martensitic, precipitation-hardened stainless steel and combines high strength and hardness with corrosion resistance. Alloy 17-4PH has the highest corrosion resistance out of all hardenable stainless steels and additionally has a higher yield strength, attaining 1130 – 1300 MPa (160-190 ksi) after heat treatment. Sandmeyer Steel Company stocks annealed 17-4PH stainless plate in thicknesses ranging from 3/16” to 3”.

Sandmeyer Steel Company is pleased to offer a large inventory of duplex stainless plates, including 2205 and 2507 .
