Sandmeyer Steel Company is more than a mill or steel service center. We are an independent, non-integrated producer of stainless steel plate and nickel alloy plate, which gives us a significant cost advantage compared to most others in the plate products business.

Rather than purchasing finished plate from the mills as the steel service centers do, we purchase semi-finished slabs and ingots from mills that have excess stainless melting capacity. We then use our access to a mill with excess plate rolling capacity to convert the reheated slabs and ingots into our finished plate. The result - plate in our inventory at or near mill cost - a substantially lower cost than purchasing finished plate - without the investment in a melt shop or rolling mill.
