Sandmeyer Steel Company Announces Management Changes

Philadelphia, PA - October 9, 1997

Sandmeyer Steel Company announced today the election of the following individuals to new management positions:

Ronald P. Sandmeyer, Jr.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Rodney C. Sandmeyer
Executive Vice President

Edward F. Kicak
Vice President - Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Edward F. Kicak, Ronald P. Sandmeyer and Rodney C. Sandmeyer

Ron Sandmeyer, Jr., a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, joined the Company in 1980 as Controller after working with Deloitte and Touche. He later became Vice President - Finance and Administration and, most recently, Senior Vice President. He succeeds Ronald P. Sandmeyer, Sr., who will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board.

Rod Sandmeyer, who has been with Sandmeyer Steel Company since 1985, has held the positions of Manager - Inside Sales and Vice President - Operations. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, he began his career with Merrill Lynch. He succeeds Paul L. von Zech, who will assume the responsibilities of Vice Chairman of the Board.

Kicak, a Certified Public Accountant, joined Sandmeyer Steel Company in 1991 as Controller. Following his graduation from Villanova University, he worked for the accounting firm Deloitte and Touche. He then joined Powell Electronics, Inc., in Philadelphia in 1981 as Controller.

Sandmeyer Steel Company, founded by the late Paul C. Sandmeyer, celebrated its 45th anniversary in May of this year. The Company is recognized as the Country's Leading Independent Producer of Stainless Steel Plate Products, which are used in process equipment in the chemical and petrochemical, wastewater treatment, textile, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, energy, food and beverage, and high vacuum industries. The Company employs over 165 people and services customers throughout North America.
