Industry Applications
for Stainless Plate Products
The properties of stainless plate make it an excellent
material for many applications, especially those involving
elevated temperatures, highly corrosive or caustic elements,
and more. Sandmeyer Steel Company provides stainless
plate in a variety of stainless steel grades with the
competitive pricing you need to keep your manufacturing
and processing costs low. You can find Sandmeyer Steel
Company’s stainless plate products in industries
such as beverage bottling and brewing, heat treatment,
power generation, pulp and paper, chemical processing,
high vacuum, food processing, pharmaceutical, wastewater
treatment, and more.

Read on to learn
about how many of our stainless plate products serve
specific industries:
Food Processing and Beverage Brewing
and Bottling
The food processing industry requires stainless plate
products to protect food and beverage from environmental
impurities as well as tainting from erosion of the conveyor
or storage material itself. Stainless plate resists
corrosion and erosion during low or high food processing
temperatures and in the presence of acidic product.
Stainless plate products also are easily cleaned, decreasing
the chances of environmental or bacterial contaminants.
Heat Treatment
Higher alloyed stainless plate products are often used
during heat treatment because they resist degradation
and deformation during prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
Chemical Processing
Many of the parts necessary for chemical processing
must retain strength at high temperatures and resist
corrosion by caustic materials. The properties of stainless
steel make stainless plate products excellent choices
for storage, transport, and the complex processing of
a variety of chemicals.
Power Generation
All the mechanical parts used in the power generation
industry, whether gas, oil, nuclear, etc., require high
levels of corrosion and oxidation resistance as well
as strength at prolonged high temperatures. Unmatched
by other materials in both physical properties and price,
stainless plate is often used for these applications.
Pulp and Paper
While paper making itself does not involve the caustic
substances found in chemical and pharmaceutical processing,
the machinery is susceptible to oxidation by water reduction.
Exposure to water and steam causes oxidation which destroys
metal. Stainless steel plate resists this damage and
is able to extend the working life of machine components.
High Vacuum
Most of the processes performed in a high vacuum atmosphere
require an uncontaminated environment. Stainless plate
products provide the corrosion-resistant and easy-to-clean
qualities necessary for these processes.
Pharmaceutical Processing
Pharmaceutical processing requires an extremely clean
environment. Stainless products can be easily cleaned,
however, they also offer the added benefit of not breaking
down in the presence of chemicals and other elements.
This resistance to corrosion prevents drug products
from being tainted by the steel itself.
Wastewater Treatment Most
manufacturing processes require substantial amounts
of water; however, there are increasingly stringent
regulations controlling the amount of contaminants wastewater
can contain. Manufacturing facilities, therefore, have
built water treatment facilities which utilize stainless
plate products for its resistance to corrosion.
