These are some of the reasons why stainless plate is valuable in so many industries:

  • Resistance to corrosion, especially oxidation and sulfidation

  • Avoidance of product contamination

  • Resistance to erosion and abrasion

  • Retention of strength and ductility at extreme temperatures

  • Suitability for necessary fabrication processes

  • Ease in cleaning

  • Formability

  • Low weight yet high strength

  • Clean and aesthetic in appearance

Sandmeyer Steel Company uses a wide variety of stainless alloys to manufacture stainless plate products. In fact we are proud to stock North America’s most extensive single site inventory of stainless plate. Read below to discover how some of our stainless plate grades are serving specific applications:

304 Stainless Plate
The properties of 304 stainless plate, as well as those of 304L and 304H stainless plates, make these alloys acceptable for use in the food industry. Because 304 stainless plate does not contaminate product it can be used for food and beverage processing equipment as well as brewing equipment.

316 Stainless Plate
316 and 316L stainless plate’s high corrosion resistance, even in the presence of salt water, makes it ideal for many marine and environmental applications. Alloys 316 and 316L additionally will retain a high level of strength even in cryogenic temperatures and is also easily fabricated; 316 stainless plate, therefore is useful in cryogenic applications.

410 Stainless Plate
Alloy 410 is used in many applications as well as many industries. In the oil industry, 410 stainless plate is used to make hardened steel balls, seats, nozzles, and valve parts in oil well pumps, and, in the paper and pulp industry, is used to make separating screens and strainers. 410 stainless plate is also used in the medical industry for the fabrication of surgical and dental instruments.

Sandmeyer Steel Company offers many stainless plate grades beyond those listed. Furthermore, the product applications of our stainless plates are virtually unlimited. Please visit to the stainless plate section to learn more.
