Sandmeyer Steel Company provides the stainless steel plate grades and competitive pricing you need for success in your industry. Stainless plate products are used in industries that include but are not limited to food processing, chemical processing, power generation, high vacuum, wastewater treatment, heat treatment, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, beverage bottling, and brewing. To discover the many industry applications that our stainless steel plate products can fill, please go to our stainless steel section.

Before choosing a stainless steel plate grade, ask yourself these questions:

  • How important is the stainless steel plate's ability to resist corrosion?

  • What about sulfidation? Or oxidation?

  • How important is the ability resist abrasion or erosion?

  • What fabrication techniques are you using?

  • How is the stainless steel plate product to be cleaned?

  • What level of strength is required at specific service or ambient temperatures?

There are more questions to ask yourself before selecting a stainless steel plate grade. Carefully assess the needs of your product or system. Sandmeyer Steel Company has a wide variety of stainless steel plate grades. Our stainless steel plate products can be found in the industries listed below as well as many others:

Food Processing, Bottling, and Brewing
Protecting food and beverages from contaminants is essential in the food processing, bottling, and brewing industries. Stainless steel plate products and components serve these industries through the alloy's ability to resist corrosion, which means stainless steel does not add contaminants by breaking down in very high or low temperatures or in the presence of corrosive substances such as acids. Additionally, stainless steel pate products are easily cleaned and can be polished for aesthetic appearance.

High Vacuum
Many of the processes that are done in a high vacuum atmosphere are extremely sensitive to contamination. Stainless steel provides the easy-to-clean, corrosion-resistant environment that these processes require.

Chemical Processing
The high temperature strength and corrosion resistance of stainless steel plate make it a natural choice for the construction of vessels used in the chemical processing industry. From simple storage tanks to complex processing facilities, stainless steel plate is often the construction material of choice.

Power Generation
All of the common power generation methods on which we rely - nuclear, gas, coal and oil - involve operating temperatures that require materials with high temperature strength as well as oxidation and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel plate is used in many of these applications because it offers these physical properties in a cost-effective package.

Wastewater Treatment
Many manufacturers are dependent on large amounts of water for their processes. With the increased restrictions on the amount of contaminants that can be discharged, many operations have established water treatment facilities in order to meet the more stringent discharge requirements. Stainless steel plate, because of its corrosion resistance, is used in many areas of these treatment facilities.

Pharmaceutical
In the pharmaceutical processing industry, retaining purity is necessary to ensure that a drug acts on the body as intended and without interference from unwanted substances. Stainless steel plate components, utilized in the pharmaceutical industry, withstand degradation from chemical attack or extreme processing temperatures.

Pulp and Paper
While paper making itself does not involve the caustic substances found in chemical and pharmaceutical processing, the machinery is susceptible to oxidation by water reduction. Exposure to water and steam causes oxidation which destroys metal. Stainless steel plate resists this damage and is able to extend the working life of machine components.

Heat Treatment
The higher alloyed stainless steels perform well during extended exposure to high temperatures. These materials are often used in heat treatment applications. Parts include conveyor belts, rollers, burner parts, trays, and many more.
