| Sandmeyer Steel Company maintains an extensive inventory of SSC-6MO stainless steel plate and plate products. SSC-6MO contains over 6% molybdenum and is the premier austenitic stainless steel for resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking. It has significantly higher strength levels than conventional austenitic grades which enables it to be utilized in thinner sections.
Superaustenitic stainless steels have
the same alloy structure as conventional 300 series
austenitic grades. However, their enhanced levels of
chromium, nickel, molybdenum, copper and nitrogen provide
them with superior resistance to chloride pitting, crevice
corrosion, stress corrosion cracking and uniform corrosion.
The high nitrogen content in some superaustenitic stainless
steels provides higher mechanical properties than the
conventional 300 series stainless grades enabling them
to be designed in thinner cross sections. Superaustenitics
are utilized where the corrosion resistance of 316L,
317L and duplex stainless steels are not adequate or
as a cost-effective substitute for some nickel alloys.
