Alloy 347/347H
Alloy 347 Stainless Steel in Pharmaceutical Processing
In the pharmaceutical and biochemistry industries, materials that are used in the production of process equipment must meet strict quality standards and requirements to protect the efficacy of the product and the well-being of end users. Materials must be durable, exhibit adequate mechanical/physical properties, provide ease of fabrication and an easily cleaned surface. Sanitary stainless steel can be used in pharmaceuticals for reaction vessels, storage tanks, pumps, piping systems, heat exchangers, ovens, fittings and valves.
Sanitary stainless steel is widely used in pharmaceutical production because it meets important industry requirements and also resists corrosion. Type 347 stainless steel exhibits good corrosion resistance and can be used in most diluted organic acids or in chloride- or fluoride-free caustic solutions at moderate temperatures. Intergranular corrosion can occur in 304 stainless steel in the heat-affected zone from welding or from high temperature service in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 – 1500°F. For many pharmaceutical applications, the columbium stabilized type 347 stainless steel is an optimal choice because of its ability. Depending on the specific application, it may actually be superior to type 321 and 304 stainless steels.
Sandmeyer Steel Company offers type 347 stainless steel for the fabrication of process equipment used in the handling of sensitive and high purity media during pharmaceutical production.
