Alloy 304CO is a unique modification of the widely used 304 stainless steel, specifically tailored with a cobalt restriction of 0.050% maximum. This feature reduces the potential for radiation contamination, a crucial requirement in nuclear applications. Alloy 304CO combines this low cobalt formulation with excellent corrosion resistance, suitable for moderate environments, including atmospheric and mildly acidic conditions. It also retains strength at elevated temperatures, making it a reliable choice for high-stress nuclear applications.

Our Alloy 304CO stainless steel plates meet both ASTM A240 and ASME SA240 specifications, with all materials undergoing intergranular corrosion testing (ASTM A262 Practice E) to ensure durability and resilience. Sandmeyer Steel also holds ASME Section III certification for Nuclear Material Organizations under Certificate Number QSC-619, ensuring compliance and quality for nuclear-grade requirements. Additionally, most thicknesses of Alloy 304CO can be dual certified as either 304L (UNSS30403) or 304H (UNSS30409), providing flexibility for applications that require either low carbon for welding or high carbon for added strength.

Alloy 304CO is commonly used across the nuclear industry, where low radiation exposure is vital. This alloy performs exceptionally well in reactor components, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and containment systems. Its cobalt-restricted composition minimizes the risks associated with radiation contamination, supporting safety in the handling and storage of sensitive materials.
